Currently, most of the energy consumption for Texas comes from natural gas. Natural gas is a cleaner burning fossil fuel, however, carbon dioxide is still emitted when natural gas is burned. Furthermore, natural gas is still a fossil fuel and thus we cannot count on always having an abundant supply. Nuclear and other renewables together take up a little over 20% of the current market. This number is projected to grow and its growth will be aided by the policy to be implemented with our plan. Decreasing coal’s large share of the market at almost 25% is one of our main goals. Coal produces large quantities of carbon dioxide and other pollutants. Our objective is to increase the use of the other energy resources being considered and decrease the use of coal.
